A revue of top operetta's showcasing favorite pieces by Gilbert and Sullivan, Johann Strauss Jr. and Franz Lehar, with Joel Klein (baritone) and Katy Hedalen (soprano); Karen Lee-Morlang returns as the musical director and pianist and project coordinator Terry Costa hosts the event.
Known for his charming stage presence and beautiful lyricism of voice, Vancouver-based baritone Joel Klein has sung leading roles in The Tales of Hoffman, Street Scene, the Merry Widow, Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri, the title role in Don Giovanni, Sid in Albert Herring, and both Dr. Bartolo and Figaro in various professional productions of the Barber of Seville. His performances have taken him across the province, where he has sung for a total audience of well over 50 000 BC’ers, young and old.
Celebrated for the clear silver-like quality and versatility of her voice, soprano Katy Hedalen is a graduate of the University of British Columbia and the University of Colorado. Katy has taught at Oklahoma State University, and was the Voice Department Head at the Merriam School of Music in Toronto. Among her performing engagements in Canada, the UK, France and the United States, she counts numerous opera, recital, and concert appearances. Currently Katy co-directs the creative concerts series “Koncert Kontinuum” with pianist Karen Lee-Morlang.
Award-winning performer and educator, Karen Lee-Morlang is recognized for her exquisite playing, boisterous stage presence as well as her freshly innovative programming. After completing two Music degrees, Karen taught at UBC for four years. She has performed for the International World Peace Forum, Festival Vancouver, CBC Radio, various Folk Festivals. Karen also sings with “The No Shit Shirleys” and directs the “Koncert Kontinuum” series.
